[How To Cook] The Most Delicious Sausage Rolls Ever

These are the most delicious ever, not kidding. If you find better, the universe will explode because it's not possible.

Ingredients

Image
What you need

  • 750g-1kg sausage mince
  • 1 large onion (I used 2 smallish)
  • 3 teasp basil (or a lot more)
  • salt, pepper (add to taste)
  • 4 thick slices bread
  • warm water
  • puff pastry (get a 10 sheeter)
  • egg-yolk
  • 1 tab cold water
  • sesame seeds

How to make these delicious rolls of unicorn jizz

Image
Preheat oven then chop the crusts off the bread, place in warm water and let them soak for a few minutes.

Image
Put sausage mince, chopped onion, basil, salt and pepper in a bowl.

Image
Drain the bread, squeeze gently to get rid of excess water then add to the bowl

Image
Get your hands dirty and mix that motherfucker well until it's all mooshy

Image
Separate the egg then mix the yolk with cold water to form our bastey stuff

Image
Separate the pastry sheets, cut in half lengthwise (you figure which way!) then put the meat like so

Image
Roll up each one individually, cut into fifths (or halves for a lunch sized one), baste with the egg yolk mixture (evenly!) then sprinkle on sesame seeds

Image
Place on a sprayed tray, place in oven and cook until cooked (until brown - about 30-40 minutes)

Image
Golden brown, delicious pieces of heaven incarnate

Image
How many 1 batch make - the top left bits are pastry + jam for dessert

Image
Serve with sauce, devour until your stomach bursts

Notes: I have tried this recipe with real mince (half beef, half pork masterchef style) and they turned out ok but not as good as this version. They tasted more real (real meat taste) and grittier (texture wise) but had a more flat taste. The sausage mince version has a better taste, texture and overall greatness.

Give them a shot, it doesn't take long at all (5 mins mixing, 10 mins setting it out, cutting etc then just 30-40 mins cooking) and let me know what you think =D

I hope you do :)

They shouldn't be oily as that's what the bread is in there for, to soak it all up. Maybe it should have 5 slices of bread if you're using 1kg of sausage mince (instead of 750g) though to make sure it doesn't get oily. Then if they are still oily you must have used too much spray on the tray.

In case you're wondering, the beer in the ingredients picture is for drinking while cooking.

Have you tried using bread crumbs and prefer using bread like this or is this just how you've been doing it?

Haven't tried breadcrumbs, not sure on the ratio to go by but I'd suggest you give the recipe a shot before trying to criticize it :)

If you want to use breadcrumbs I would suggest roughly 1/3 cup per 500g of mince

Careful with using breadcrumbs as they will dry out the mix alot more than fresh bread.

Id say stick with fresh bread.

They look delicious Fork!

Hekate will have to do a write up on the spring rolls she makes.

Hey, it was midnight and I was drunk.

No I haven't tried breadcrumbs and probably won't as I feel the recipe is fine how it is. If you do try it, let me know how it goes :)

I can attest to the incredimazingness (fuck your squiggly red underline firefox, this should be a word) of these sausage rolls. The only criticism I have is that Fork
made way too many and I couldn't stop eating them which, mixed with copious amounts of Jacks and coke, made for an achingly full belly.

I'll be giving these a shot over the next few days, will post my results.

Any opinions on bread crumbs/fresh bread working better? I'll give it a shot with the fresh bread.
