I think the end was definitely a dream. I'm not sure whether I liked it or not. The whole dream about the snow was fucking boring, I was almost nodding off myself, although again that could have been the drinks. I don't think I'd want to see it again, but it was worth checking out.

Also appreciated that Ariadne was actually an interesting character who wasn't in the movie just to A) be someone's girlfriend or B) take her clothes off/wear a tight-fitting leather outfit.

I wouldve paid more attention if she was naked and/or in a sexy outfit.

It would be the last naked woman you'd ever see.

which one was ariadne?

nevermind i have imdb, ellen page, her character seemed like it needed a training montage, i mean she's an architecture student, goes in the dream world once and suddenly understands everything about it better than anyone else, and is a therapist for mr da vinci

i did laugh when JGL said "quick kiss me"... "they're still looking", "it was worth a shot"

him in the hallway fight scene was also awesomely done, apparently that was done with an actual rotating hallway

Yeah, i heard he doesn't like CG so he tried to do as much of the movie as possible without it.

yeah apparently the whole explosion scene near the start when ariadne first goes in and all the flower pots explode was done without CGI

that didn't make much sense kon, that's the first time i've heard that we weren't supposed to think of ellen page sexually in the movie, i failed at that part of the movie then :( i was definitely hoping her and JGL got into it more

this was also interesting, i didn't notice the wedding ring when i watched it

no shit? that's crazy. Maybe when i watch this a 3rd time on DVD down the road i'll look out for the ring. after watching it a second time i just had this overwhelming feeling that he succeeded but couldn't really explain it other than just feeling it. If the wedding ring is to be believed then that's cool.

I also didn't even notice the wedding ring when I watched it, wow how subtle...I love this movie even more now. Makes me want to see it again now.

The ending really does fit well with this movie, when dealing with something so subjective as dreams and the subconscious, having an ending that is subjective does work very nicely. Even with the wedding ring theory, there is no conclusive evidence that lets you think one is more certain over the other, it is still left open - comes down to how you interrupt the top, it kept spinning to make you think he is in his dream but wobbled just enough to give hope that he is in the real world.

The ending really is up to the individual person, I don't mind either way, but I like to think he is in a dream because it keeps things more interesting but with that wedding ring theory, it does indicate Cobb is not in his dream.

(The ending is kind of like the Elfen Lied - was that Lucy at the door?, and the Code Geass one - is Lelouch alive or not? is the ending a tragedy or a happy ending? - depends on your interpretation =D).

Ah dreams really are magical...

about the wedding ring theory. He said that "they were together in his dreams" but at the end (in his dream) he gave her away. He told himself that she was gone, they weren't together, and it was over. That could have been enough to remove the ring from his finger in the dream world, thus making it impossible for us to know for sure. i think?

I think they mention in that article that you see the ring on his finger after Mal dies but while still in the dream so you cant really be sure. It was extremely well made, only problem was that in the theater I went to they had the volume so fucking loud that the slightest noise in a quiet scene (such as treading on the glass in the hotel room) nearly made me shit my pants.

You are right, dreams are based on your perceptions and how you really feel (and some other things I have no idea about - the universe?), so if Cobb came to accept his situation and came to accept that his wife had died (due to him) and let her go from his subconscious, than that would be enough to explain why Mal isn't there and why he doesn't have his ring in the final scene - the chains that were binding him have eroded away with his acceptance.

But either way, whether Cobb is in reality or in a dream, the fact that Cobb has accepted his situation and was able to free himself from the chains of guilt (?) and let his wife go is enough for the ending to be happy. The line between the real reality and the dream have been blurred so much, it's just as if the dream is another plane of existence and in essence another reality (if he doesn't know it's a dream, than it is fine? he is still 'living').

Awesome movie, I'm gonna be seeing it 2nd time soon I'll watch for ring and other stuff. Def worth watching a 2nd time, but I also had the volume too loud issue since I saw it at imax they always overdo everything.
