Dang you're watching some of the funny ones. I'm jealous because I can't watch everything at once because I'm doing too many things that occupy my attention.

156 is an amazing episode and it makes everything so much cooler that you can't see the characters. For some reason, I was really into the whole episode, listening intently and laughing at all the little jokes, even though the whole thing was done in 1 scene without seeing the characters.

I also liked the feeling of 188. It's got a nice feeling to it.

Oh 188, will be looking forward to that episode.

And yeah I am trying to watch as much Gintama with the free time I have - combining meal time with watching Gintama. I'm even cutting down on the daily exercise I do, to watch extra Gintama o.O (was quite busy with my practice negotiations and negotiation assessment last week, but now that the assessment for it is over and I completed my filenote, am waiting for the Christmas break starting after tomorrow - tomorrow is going be busssy). Also, rets, when you neglect to do any exercise during the day, does your body feel like something is missing? It happens with me, I have to do some exercise in the day or else it just feels weird and wrong, my body misses the sensation of tensing, fatigue and ecstasy.

Anyway back to Gintama. For those who watch/read Naruto, you know how Naruto is able to look both left and right at the same time, well in a sense Gintama is able to achieve something like this in it's feel/atmosphere. I mentioned in an earlier post that Gintama is able to hit both ends of the spectrum - being both serious and comical and seeming to have no flow but one at the same time. That's still how I feel and it's such a strange feeling - Gintama disturbs yet excites you, it pushes you away yet pulls in, it makes you laugh and makes you cry, it's frank yet deep, it's soothing and electrical. And one of the most peculiar things about Gintama is Gintoki, he is not your average JUMP hero yet he is exactly that. It a curious feeling Gintama gives off, in all that chaos and randomness, everything comes together so harmoniously. It's like the traffic in Asia - when I was in India for a holiday, the traffic was so chaotic, seemingly uncoordinated, yet it is actually flowed, and made me realise a new dimension of functionality.

Gintama is able to take all those scatters threads it creates in the episodes and arcs and tie them all together in the end revealing quite an amazing and deep image/[conclusion]. You don't consciously get attached to Gintama but when you recognise the fact that you are thinking about it more and more, you realise just how much of a impact is has on you. It is the "silent" big hit of JUMP and it is way overlooked for titles such as Naruto and Bleach. I agree with rets and Shaunz, Gintama is one of the best titles in JUMP, and one of the best (if not the best) anime from JUMP magazine.

Ah I so look forward to the new season of Gintama, especially since it seems to be in HD (but first, the rest of season 4).

Episode 165 - Hahah mannequins =P

Episode 164 - lol Odd Jobs imposters - hahah I laughed a lot when it was revealed who it was, and man Stainlessboy scene was hilarious. The second part of the episode - Shinpachi and his new "friend", lol so many Doraemon references. The fact that it was also parodying Terminator made it even more hilarious - lol "Connor". Poor guy in the end, it was so awkward when he realised he got the wrong person (skynet probably got the real Connor by then =P).

Episode 165 - outbreak of influenza in Edo. Was amusing when Kondou and Ayame revealed themselves in Shinpachi's house, but hahaha "Ginfluenza" and "Taefluenza", that was hilarious, those two stalkers and masochist =P. Hasegawa is such a slob, but lol he was proud to be homeless and poor =P. Katsura, man, hahah Obama represent =). The Obama characters in anime/manga becoming more frequent now (the Japanese love Obama) - there is a Obama character in Air Gear (Ohama). "Yes, we can!" and lol Ill Smith (world play on "Will Smith" and "virus" in Japanese) - I love how random Katsura's character is. Gintama
live-action
Mannequinns was awesome.

Ginfluenza, hahah...

Episode 166 - oh man, Hijikata and Gintoki handcuffed together, thats just too cruel Sougo!!! Sougo is so demonic, putting laxatives in Hijikata's mayonnaise, but hahah that bathroom scene of Gintoki and Hijikata stating their plans to deal with the situation setting out the benefits and risk was really amusing, but the end result, oh wow...hilarious. I can't believe they did that, Sougo is definitely the devil for doing such a thing! He is too cruel!

Image

Image
Guess whose boots those are =P

The battle scene of Gintoki and Hijikata was great, fighting while handcuffed, reminded me of Double Arts. In Double Arts the two main characters had to hold hands (the main lead was able to nullify the virus which the main female was infected by, so contact was needed). The two developed a whole new fight style combining dancing and martial arts - it was refreshing and cool. Gintoki and Hijikata kicking ass was awesome. The end was great - the two acknowledging and rejecting they do get along.

Image

Episode 167-170 - Tama Quest!!! I never played any Dragon Quest before, but this was awesome. Polygon Tama and pixel Tama were great, hilarious how Gintoki was bringing up oldschool style games, and noting his love for that crude and somewhat expressive style - pixels and text =P. RPG setting in Tama's body, lol, who knew they could such a concept so colourful. Leukocyte King huh, hmmmm so to Tama, Gintoki is the strongest person she knows? Two Gintoki's fighting, hahah that was something, the voice actor even changed his voice enough to keep the two characters separate.

Image

"Firebane", lol the cliffhanger for episode 169 was great, Gintoki is awesome. I like the end of episode 170, when the two Gin's worked together to defeat the Tapir King, and in all the travelling they did together, the Leukocyte King was able to find something else on top of protecting Tama, a meaning to his existence beyond protecting Tama - and that is friendship.

Gintoki really is unlike any other JUMP hero, I like how it was pointed out that Gintoki, rather than offering gratuitous words or tears to express himself, he smiles, a simple yet infinitely vast and deeply expressive smile.

The music was cool and Shinpachi = his glasses is just gold.

Image

Episode 171 - the two burglars breaking into Gintoki's apartment, hahah poor guys. So many Gundam references, it made me aware at just how little Gundam I have watched and know =(. Lol at the burglars opening the draws and finding Ayame in one - hahahah, lol such stalker. But the best part of the episode was when Hasegawa entered the apartment, ate the food, took a bath, wore Gin's clothes (lol strawberry boxers) and stole some more food, that was just hilarious - Hasegawa really is hopeless =P. The burglars meeting all the "freaks" associated with Gintoki - Tama, Sadaharu, Hasegawa, and Katsura (hahah he is so random - lol Disney references).

The second part of the episode - Gin, Shin-"patchy" and Kagura start balding lol. Hilarious at the opening and ending changes of balding Gintoki. So much hate (love?) for Krillin, he was made fun of so much (but "Patchy" defended him =P). Lol at "Patchy" pointing out that Vegeta and Nappa were worried about Krillin's Destructo Disk. Poor poor Krillin, but he did score one of the best females in DBZ. Hair-loss virus huh - Sadaharu wins. I was actually expecting the ending credits to be filled with the bald-version of the characters for a second =P.

Image

Image

Episode 172 - the "carrot and stick" tactic, lol what? The Shinsengumi and their interrogation methods, how unusual =P. Kondou's story about parent's and children with the theme of muscles hahah.

This was hilarious, what an "addicting" story

Haha, I watched most of those recently. Yeah, I like some of the stories they come up with, jesus. So much random shit going on and the whole story is about them getting sick or interrogating a prisoner. How do the writers do it?! I watched (listened to) the handcuff episode last night and couldn't stop laughing, especially at the toilet scene. I knew exactly what was happening unfortunately, since I needed my beauty rest and was chuckling instead.

As for working out, yes, if I don't run or lift, not only do i feel lazy but I feel tired the rest of the week. The muscle soreness seems to remind me that I'm being active and actually makes me feel more energized. Also, running helps me sleep at night AND gives me energy the next day. It's really a win win situation except for the 10 degree weather outside.

Exercise is good no matter how you look at it. It's fun and leaves you feeling so refreshed and energised =). Once you get into a routine, it becomes easy to follow. And oh yeah, it's Winter (or close to it) in Japan right? Right now in New Zealand, it's Summer and warm but wet and humid as well =(. It's overcast and wet in morning and sunny and hot in the afternoon - you have to dress for both seasons in a day, well in New Zealand, it's practically four seasons in a day. If New Zealand were in the One Piece world, it would definitely be one of the Islands in the Grand Line.

Yeah I also have no idea how the writer(s) do it, they are able to take simple and ordinary concepts and turn them into something expressive and explosive (especially laughter and entertainment-wise). It's a mystery how Gintama achieves what it does, but I'm glad I'm able to watch it.

Elizabeth's design is so good, even Toriko decided to use the design for it's Wall Penguin

Gintama episode 173 - hahah Elizabeth, 'bout time he got some coverage. Hilarious how oblivious Katsura is - "you dropped you TS" (and being completely unaware of the fake-Elizabeth) =P. Second part of the episode, lol Gintoki switching bodies with Sadaharu =P. The end was hilarious though, Shinpachi's glasses, hahah, man I love that gag, it never gets old.

Image
Ginpachi!!!!!

Episode 174 - lol the boat trip, but the elevator part of the episode was funny. Shinpachi's "Magical Banana" game was great - is there even a game like that? The security guard caught up and traumatised by "that" incident in his past and contantly bringing it up to keep the mood depressing was hilarious and hahah the three-day weekend reveal was awesome. The end was gold, as soon at Gin and Kagura head out to save Shinpachi, 30 seconds later help arrives, hahah that security guard is in fact "fortunate"?

Episode 175 - oh wow, unbelievable, taking a simple concept of characters being afraid of going to the dentist and making it something so dam hilarious. Probably one of the funniest episodes I've watched. The conflict and pure stupidity between Gintoki and Hijikata is just awesomely amusing. I love the scene where the two fought over who gets "Nakayama" and the proceeding outcome of that. The voice actors having such amazing skills for voicing makes the episode so hilarious. The Dentist lol, what the hell, thank goodness I never had a dentist like that =P. And Hasegawa, hahah, the treatment he got, what the....torture? The end was weird, modified? lol.

Episode 176 - Man no show does recap episodes like Gintama. Gintama does the best recaps, in fact they are so good, I look forward to them. "Countdown" - best 10 lines in the show. So good to have them take you back to some of the most badass scenes in the show - but what #3? that was awesome, the animation quality was amazingly high - movie quality. Expected that Gintoki took most of spots - he has the best lines, as what is expected from a protagonist =). Katsura gag lines was epic.

Image

Image

Episode 177-181 - ahhhhhhh hell yeah! I didn't expect they would revisit Yoshiwara, how awesome. The Gintoki and Tsukuyo scenes were great - lol at Gintoki "accidentally" groping Tsukuyo and getting suplexed for it =P. Gintoki is such a flawed character, but he so badass (well all Gintama characters in fact), Gintoki really is like no other shounen hero. The story of this arc was great, nice getting exploration into the new character, Tsukuyo.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Episode 180 was so epic, one of the best Gintama episodes for me. The intro was great, the black and white animation of Gintoki's flashback with his master was beautiful and powerful. The Gintoki and Tsukuyo scenes really highlighted what makes Gintoki such a great main character. The fight was amazing, the after-effects reminded me of Blood+ style blur-effect, so refreshing and wonderful to watch. The change to the black and white again really heightened the fight and made it more memorable. Jiraia's past being revealed and the act by Tsukuyo after was moving, great conclusion to the battle.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Episode 181, lol nice follow-up episode to close the arc off. Drunk Tsukuyo vs Gintoki, hahah Gintoki got owned. But he did hit the "jackpot" in the end =P. The conclusion of the arc was great, Gintoki really does know what to say when the time calls for it. He is a man of few words, yet he really does inspire you to be yourself. Benizukura Arc Movie trailer at the end - ah I want to watch it, even though it is a remake of an arc I already watched =D (in other news, the Gintama movie dvd sales outsold the Haruhi movie).

Image

Image

Image

Episode 182-184 - oh man, I don't believe it, they actually used a popularity poll to create an arc (Justaway ftw), how original and awesome. I didn't think the episodes could get funnier than what has already been established, but man was this arc hilarious. Shinpachi in the start acting all depressed with the ranking and conveying how the world is obsessed was rankings was amusing. The characters having the label of their ranks attached to them this arc was great, just by the number you could point the character out =P. Shinpachi getting his Fist of the North Star cameo was so awesome.

Having all the important characters (well Shinsuke and Kamui were included in a way...kind of...O.o) was great. I love how each character is unforgettable and there is something about them all that entertains you, so having all of them covered in this arc was laughter-inducing cool. Otae/Ayame/Kyubei forming a group was funny, lol at Tsukuyo trying to be considerate and hahah the absorbing.…

Image

Image

Image

Kondou being proud of having his character already shamed from all the times he was naked in the gags was hilarious - impregnable fortress huh? Poor Kondou when Otae showed up. But hahahah when he was "absorbed", his actions really disturb and repel you, but man do they make you laugh. I couldn't stop laughing when he was flaunting his man piece and asking Hijikata to embarrass him - Sougo to the rescue =P! Katsura is so random, trying to play the mediator lol =P, but he was right that the show will end in March, because it did (well season 4 did anyway).

Image

Otae vs Hijikata, hahah she referenced his voice actors role in Sengoku Basara, how awesome. "Lets Party!"

Image

Image

Image

The end with Shinpachi and Yamazaki - the "boring characters", the "dirt", getting the respect and attention they sought after(?) - poor guys overestimating the other characters =P.

Ah Gintama, entertaining and personal.

Console
Bee wars, lol

Gintama episode 185 - hahah parody of Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory, but this time a mayonnaise factory. Hijikata, lol how cruel of him to make his men eat so much mayonnaise, they even showered with it!! Funnier part of the episode was the second part with the Bee aliens =P. Funny how the consoles were brought up in each of the three hives.

Episode 186-187 - nice to have some coverage on Sougo and get a deeper look at his character beyond his fiendishly cruel self when he is targeting Hijikata =P. Who knew Sougo had that big of a heart? =P. The intro of episode 186 when he was stabbed was lol - death flags huh. The Sougo and Kagura feud and the situation they wound up in did cause a lot of laughs - lol at Sougo pretending(?) to have soiled his pants and Kagura as a result barfing and flooding the area and causing the means to their escape O.o. Nice ending, especially the response Kirie gave Sougo - a death flag huh.

Image

Image

Image

Episode 188 - have to agree with you retsgip, this episode does have a nice feel to it. How amazingly paced, it starts of one big joke but after the jump to August 1st, the story gets more serious and you realise you really into finding out what happened to the Madao =P. Daigoro's observation journal really does become a novel, especially with his entire dialog becoming so descriptive and detailed =P. I don't know why, but I really like Hasegawa's character, it was nice to see some honour knocked back into him this episode even though he remained a madao =P. And even though he remained a madao, he did bloom.

Image
Ah Hasegawa, what a guy, an unemployed homeless guy, but still what a guy...

Cool how Daigoro's character is voiced by Naruto's seiyuu. I didn't recognise the voice when Daigoro was reciting his "observation" in a monotone voice, only when the emotion came out did I make the link to Naruto.

Episode 189 - there's such a thing as radio exercise? cool O.o. I like how Gintama is able to draw out the emotion from simple episodes like this. The music, voicing, pacing and content [and Gintoki] all make the episode moving and touching. It's cool how Kagura's friends came to help her when she needed help.

Episode 190-192 - once again a Gintama arc begins so ridiculously and randomly but ends epically - I was tearing at the end, Hoichi-dono!!!!!!! It's formulaic, no doubt about Gintama arcs, but the formula works so well, it'd be surprising if they didn't use it for Gintama arcs. The mere gesture by Hoichi-dono at the end concluded everything so nicely, it made me both smile and laugh =D.

Image

Gintoki looked weird as a cat, but hahah his "dead-fish eyes" look =P. Hilarious when Gin, Katsura and Kondou went begging for food - hahah Sougo that bastard (he took a photo!! he took a photo of them when they were totally shamed, how cruel!!) and oh man Hijikata (what the hell! mayonnaise-fetish overkill). Kondou with his "saber", hahah his character really disturbs you, but his stupidity and crudeness is hilarious.

Image

Image

Image
The FORCE!!!!

I don't know what was up with that Catnip planet King (well I do, he was useless at creating offspring), but did he really think the Kintama plan he had going would awaken his Shenlong? Though in the end, his Shenlong did awaken, but in a different way than he thought O.o.

I like the connection/similarity Otose made between Gintoki and Hoichi, cool how even when Gintoki is overshadowed by the arc characters, he gets enough highlighting to shine through as the main character.

Image

Episode 193 - I didn't get a lot of the references made this episode, but lol, it was amusing at how random the characters approach to cooking is. Kagura and the Colonel, and Kyubei and Ronald, and all the referencing to the boy bands and other stuff, hahahah weird...the upbeat music when the cooking challenged started was cool and groovy. They really do put a whole new meaning to putting love into your cooking O.o.

Episode 194 - Hijikata and his attempts to have the snot of Kondou's nose removed =P. What a random episode, focusing on something so strange when their is raid going on - lol at the referencing Hijikata makes when he is slashing down the enemies - "Snowbells", "Socrates", "Soul Society", "Son Goku". Kondou's "true" form lol, what?

Image
Hijikata, always so "considerate" O.o

The "Be-bop Kamui-kun" shorts at the start was amusing - "I'll kill you!".

Since episode 180 I have been despairing because with every episode I watch, the closer I get to the end of season 4 =(. Once I finish watch episode 201, I'll have watched all the episodes, and I'll feel somewhat empty inside when I start to watch another series due to it feeling average and me missing Gintama =(. Though I could always re-watch Gintama at sometime, but oh well for now, I'll finish watch the series and wait for April next year =D. Gintama is awesome.
Syphin
Image
I love the ending song - lol Zenzo

Gintama episode 195-199 - oohhh Onmyoji, cool. So amusing seeing Gintoki trying to act all cool and proper around Christel Ketsuno - this dimension of him we don't see often, when around someone he has a crush on =P. This arc was cool, the introduction scene of Gedomaru was hilarious, lol at her acting the part of her mother, father and herself. That scene also highlighted again just how epic dialog is in Gintama - just a scene of a shikigami in Gintoki's hand and the dialog, man that was crazy awesome.

Gedomaru faking the "image" of herself and backstabbing those other shikigami was hilarious - how cruel, dirty and awesome =P.

Shinpachi and the Pandemonium, wow what the...what a twist!!! Lol at the Beserk Behelit reference and the voice the Pandemonium had...hilariously weird.

Gintoki break-dancing was total win, but man did I also cringe when his Kintama got squashed - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! MAN DOWN!!!!

This was the only video I could find of it (I think it's in Spanish):

The background story of the Ketsuno and Shirino clan conflict was really interesting, didn't expect the feud to have such a deep and complex history. Cool how everything played out in the climax - Gintoki using everyone's prayers and wishes to help Doman and Seimei ascend their historic chains which bound them to the unnecessary conflict they were continuing on.

Image
!!!!

The ending of the arc, wow, how moving. I cried. Christel Ketsuno showing her appreciation to and thanking Gintoki got me real good, what a great scene, so moving and so touching. Gedomaru thanking Gintoki was also great =). Ah Gintoki is awesome, what a great character, what a great protagonist. There is a part of Gintoki (a very large part) that reminds me of Cowboy Bebop's Spike (my second favourite anime character). Both laid-back, sarcastic and lively, and both following a bushido-directed philosophy (Samurai indeed). And both are indirect with their emotions, and convey how they feel with smile. Both grounded in reality and in themselves, and both realising what is important to them. And both are awesome.

Image

Image

Image
It's sunny indeed

Episode 200-201 - hahah what a coincidence, the final two episodes deal with Christmas, and fittingly it's Christmas Eve right now =). How totally relevant - what great timing. Great episode, love what spin they put on the Christmas spirit in this episode, keeping it both heartful and hilarious. The five Santas showing up and Kagura having fun by having them prove to her who the real Santa is was great. "Happy Merry Last Episode" huh. Ah now I'm both sad and happy. Sad that Gintama is over yet happy I watched it =). So glad Gintama is coming back April next year.

Epic posts, Syphin. /salute

First term holidays are a few weeks away so I'll definitely be picking up Gintama again when that rolls around. Can't wait :D!!

I can also vouch for Gintama's awesomeness. Not only does it have great humor which has not failed to make me laugh in every episode, but also, its story arcs are amazing. In Gintama, they change the mood from silly and humorous to serious and action-y at the drop of a hat. Many an arc in the series (like the most recently completed one, the Four Divas arc) made me weep manly tears. Gintoki's rage and subsequent battle with Jirocho after seeing Otose "dead" at the grave was quite possibly the most epic moment in Gintama, if not one of the most epic in any anime I've ever seen. His face when he first attacks still sends chills down my spine.

The aforementioned fight. Don't watch if you haven't seen up to the Four Divas arc. Actual fight starts at 7:20.
