An article in The Age today about the LHC finally going into operation.
If you dont know what it is and you want to learn mooooarrrrr, then go to here
Some bits of info if you cant be bothered.
$9.6 Billion project.
7 times faster than the current worlds best LHC
Biggest scientific test in human history
They are hoping to find out a bunch of unknowns from this machine, namely Dark matter and 'the god particle' or otherwise known as Higgs boson. Basically the ability to create microcosmos's and all that stuff.
Eventually it will be used to smash to beams together - the energy created is about the same as just after the big bang theory of how earth was created. Or 5 TeV per beam.
Pretty mind boggling what humans have/are achieving.
Also you can goto the website to have a look at what it is its doing. They have done the first syncro tests etc. Today they are actually sending some particles around the 27km ring.
If all this is way over the top for you see this stupid hat
Or if you want the Video version of it all see here

Ok, so I was at school, at the canteen, really old ugly canteen lady saying "we are all going to die today, from a black hole", yes everyone knows about it, then my friend said we should probably hug and make it seem like a scary dream, then the lunch lady said "yeah, we can have sex too.." WTF! too far..

that would be cool thought, it's been like 5ish years since our last natural disaster, need some more to break up the mind numbing dullness of this place
No they were Twister style all over the place
