Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy World.


Vermintide takes place in and around Ubersreik, a city overrun by Skaven. You will assume the role of one of five heroes, each featuring different play-styles, abilities, gear and personality. Working cooperatively, you must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from the hordes of relentless rat-men, known as the Skaven.


Vermintide is in open beta right now, and there are a bunch of us already playing it. Its pretty fun, I'm really enjoying it. Think Left4Dead or Hellgate London; just a gory hack, slash and don't die game.

That does look like a hell of a lot of fun.

So is it little missions against AI? Storyline? Any character progression?

From what I've seen there are objectives similar to L4D, and there's also a levelling and gear mechanic.

It's all versus AI I believe, not sure if humans can control the enemies.

It's a shame they've no plans for versus. It'd make the replay value way better. How's the connection in general Doc? I heard one complaint was since it's peer to peer you can miss out on loot if the dick hosting leaves early.

Yeah, if the host crashes or bails its not much fun, but those things happen.

My musings so far, some of which will go into my beta report to the devs:

BRIGHT WIZARD
Bright Wizard OVERCHARGE bar is too minimal. In large melees it can be difficult to see just how much there is to go. Perhaps if it was not red, maybe a blue instead, maybe slightly wider.
The damage taken from Venting should not appear with the same damage taken arrow as mob damage.
Team members cannot see how on-fire you are. An indicator when nearing complete OVERCHARGE would increase team synergies.
A notice or indicator to team members letting them know you have stopped to Vent would be good.
There are times when shooting mobs at range clearly hit the target, but they take no damage/are unaffected.
There have been times, when spamming left-click and pressing Q, no switch occurs. Unsure if working as intended.
You should be able to switch out to different staves in game. Perhaps put in a penalty timer when used.


Fireball Staff:
The secondary fire visual effect is too bright, and fills up the center of the screen, making it basically useless.
The lob time of the secondary fire can be a little long. Giving it a bit more AOE could make up for this.
Good first timer staff.

Bolt Staff:
The secondary fire visual effect is not as bright, and clears up the center of the screen faster, but you can still lose your target relatively annoyingly.
Close in, the cross-hairs are no good, you shoot down either side of the target. Put in side brackets on the cross-hairs. ( + )
Secondary fire really needs a zoom in function (no scope lol)
The rapid fire speed is amazing. If I wasn't so in love with Conflag, this would be my favourite staff.

Conflagration Staff:
The AOE template should ignore things like braziers, flags and furniture.

There is no music off / music volume option.
There is no Bar man nonsense off option.
There is no in-game banter volume option.

Health regen should be a thing.

I left this to patch last night, leaving it going all night. This morning the whole thing is corrupted. Wont play, have to re-download. Tried all the usual things (redirect steam to the game folder, copy then paste in different location, validate game cache) to no avail.
About on par with my other gaming experiences.
