I've had a few little play sessions over the last week, and have been pleasantly surprised by SWTOR.
Ever since WoW I've been hesitant about MMOs, it seemed nothing could ever compare to the golden era and I don't have much game time these days. Though It seems the stars have aligned, I am treating my time in SWTOR more like a single player game and at the moment and its working out for me. If you pay $15 for a months sub you get 12x exp from class quests, so I'm following them with a few side quests thrown in here and there and its playing much like a single player game with some MMO features. Levelling up is quick and consistent with the exp boost and it takes the grind right out of it so I can see the bigger picture sooner.
I'm very impressed with the game, it's much better and more polished than I expected. It has the MMO feel of WoW but with the dialogue and storyline of Mass Effect, and a solid foundation of Star Wars characters, lore and themes that are instantly familiar.
There's a lot of polish that I haven't seen in other MMOs too, you can get ressed by a medbot on the spot and then get a bit of stealth to recover, when you want the odd PvP match or instance its just a click away and it ports you back to where you were, you can run around with the map open and its all very easy to navigate, grouped looting, easy item compares and previews, stuff like that which you take for granted but then notice if its missing.
On top of that there's the fantastic storyline. It's actually refreshing to have a compelling storyline, and the portrayal of the Sith and its culture is very well done. You care about the characters and the choices they make. Companions are cool and finding the right way to handle a conversation true to your character, allegiance, companion and your own play style is like a mini game in itself.
Throughout the world there's Heroic Quests that need 2 people to complete, and little 2 man Heroic Instances that would be awesome to play through with mates, but I've only played with Matey once and am missing out on this. Would be great if we can get some more Twelvians playing.
If this sounds like fun to anyone, I implore you to pick it up. It's Free 2 Play but for $15 you get a lot more out of it, still cheaper than having a couple of pints at the pub. It is a large download (~30gb) but its choc full of videos and nearly every NPC you talk to is brimming with quality voice acted dialogue. It also lets you start playing before the download is finished as it prioritises the first planets assets, so you could be playing in no time.
Did I mention you'll be able to play as a mother-fucken Jedi with goddamn lightsabers?
Have posted a few screenshots below. For some reason the game doesn't screenshot during in-game cutscenes so some great ones are missing, will have to get around that somehow.
Doing my masters bidding in some old Sith temple.
Locking eyes with the dreamy Matey

Cool surrounds in Drummond Kaas City
Dinged and was able to equip the sweet yellow lightsabre I got from an instance
Wish it showed up on the screenshot but this place is called "The Wall", though there were no Wildings to be found.

Got a nice surprise from the class quest, my very own ship!
I am pleased, but still brooding. It is the Sith way.
