I made the call to the defense force to start my financial officer position today. They told me there are 'still financial positions available' which sounded promising. I have an appointment set for 2nd February.

I think one of the reasons why I haven't had much career success is because I've always wanted more than just a career but also a change in lifestyle. I am fit, healthy and I have no life commitments. I am also still young but that won't last forever so I want to do this now so I can take most advantage of what should be the best days of my life. I want to travel around having crazy amounts of fun, I don't want to be stuck at home arguing online about video game politics. Yea things have been better the past month but its still not enough. If anything the whole ordeal has somewhat liberated me from my video game commitment to allow me to start thinking about what I want to do and the defense force ticks every box.

This isn't the first time I applied for the army. I first applied in 2002 but I missed out because I failed the eye test. I have an unusual difference in the strength of my short shortsightedness compared to both eyes and I failed because I wasn't able to pass with out my specs on in both eyes. This was a stupid rule and I have since learned that they have changed the test to suit people with my condition more favorably. Still the experience to do so well in my application was something that has stuck with me and hopefully I will progress further this time.

Good luck Cailo :) a job in the Defence Force would definitely be an exciting change!

ATTENTION HIVE DRONES:

Tailored suits are for successful people. Off the rack suits are for people trying to make it.

Casual attire is for hipsters and weekends.

Good luck Cailo! It'd definitely be a good stable position to get into and I'm sure they would treat and train you well.

Lol. What about suits off the rack that get tailored for you?

First day back in the office :/ I'm sitting in the library expressing and surfing the internets. So far a quiet uneventful day of the same conversation with everyone as they realise I'm back.
Should be a bit more work like tomorrow once I have some actual work to do.
On the plus side I got to pull out some heels to rock in the office - it's been tough having a chest of drawers full of shoes I couldn't wrar.

Good stuff, what colour heels? I hate it when I can't wrar mine too.

How'd you go with your offsider? Nice and chummy or is she snarky and hissing? Have you had to lay down the law?

If there's a cat fight, make sure it gets posted. Apparently that's newsworthy these days.

Offsides is good. Perhaps an undercurrent of power struggle but I'll see how things go over the next week or two

Adorable!

Slack rollout is progressing, the support team are now using it and they've been told that it should remain open during business hours. Hooray for accountability! Also got the receptionist and a couple others on it. Next up is the sales team.

I had a big meeting yesterday about shaping the future of my department.

On monday I had a pre-meeting with the team leaders to go through the vision and the proposed changes to teams, responsibilities and workloads. That meeting was a two hour long argument where the various team leaders wanted different things and thought there was a more efficient way to do things (they are/were wrong).

So yesterday morning before the big meeting [with the CEO, company owner and team leaders) I prepared a bunch of responses to various objections / suggestions that I knew were going to come up. I was ready for battle.

The meeting happened and I put forth my proposals and...everyone agreed and said it sounded great. I was quite surprised and a little confused but the whole day ended up much better than expected.

I guess sometimes things aren't shit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've noticed as I get older and get more and more meetings under my belt that people tend to go into them with a list of complaints and/or grievances they've been bottling up for a while. They usually see the meeting as a chance to air those issues with the aim of making everyone aware of the shit they have to deal with every day. Hell i'm definitely guilty of this myself.

What you end up with is everyone fighting over who has the most important problem, trying to get their issue to the top of an imaginary complaints pile that they hope will be personally addressed by the manager/boss.

The manager/boss will do his best to assure you that the concern or issue you have is actually nothing but a figment of your imagination.

When someone comes in with a list of solutions rather than problems... Yes, it is quite the breath of fresh air.

Well done, Spoob.

Indeed, solutions instead of problems is very important.

In this case it also sounded like they didn't put up a fight in the big meeting because they were just chicken shit of making themselves look stupid in front of the big bosses and shit. Anyone can have a whinge behind closed doors, but most will shy away if something is actually at stake.
