Welcome to the New Twelve

All up in your mindset

Fork
Ladies and gentlemen, jerks and binfases,

As you have no doubt noticed, we have fiddled with some shit and repurposed ourselves for the most important task there is: Keeping Twelve Alive.

I implore you to read this post in its entirety so you're up to date with the recent happenings at Twelve.

Gaming will always be a huge part of Twelve, but it has become clear it is no longer the glue that holds us together.

The golden age of MMO's is over, and tyranny rules the land. Just kidding. Though you must admit that you're kidding yourself if you believe we can enter a game at our current standing and dominate it like we did World of Warcraft in its infancy.

The gaming scene has changed drastically in the decade since Twelve was conceived. MMOs and guilds are no longer a new thing with paddocks of newbies ready to be picked up and comforted under our wing. Recruitment drives are hard on the mind and body of those putting in the effort and while in years past they were quite successful, the gaming landscape has since changed. It's a hard fact that the often underappreciated and valiant efforts by these recruiters is no longer as effective as they once were and we want to let these people rest.

For each new game Twelve takes a gamble on, the rewards are never as sweet as the nostalgic first venture into Molten Core or Vaelastrasz kill, and the game never lives up to our expectations. It is no fault of our own, but the state of the reality we partake in. Twelve as a whole has grown up and generally no longer has umptine hours to manage a guild and attend every raid. We can't cater for everyone, and while that is sad we have found it true and must move on.

Let it be known that the exception to this is our WoW guild, who is still going strong to this day and doesn't look like it's going to relent! The issue we're dealing with here is pretty much every other game.

Twelve has evolved!

We have evolved past needing a game to hold us together and keep us Twelve.

Each of us is Twelve, you and me, and that ugly guy next to you. We make Twelve.

We are twelve.

We've known it for a while now, but it's time to embrace it.

It's time for Twelve to break free of the opressive shackles binding us to our guilds in games.

Twelve is about Twelvians together, sharing anything and everything with each other, and holding each other during the hard times.

Twelve is about laughing with comrades about the latest budget or missing plane, as much as it is about how many frags you got with half a grenade.

Twelve is meeting up from around the country and puking in buckets together, then drawing penises on our faces and dancing like furry hooligans.

We are twelve.
  • The launch of this new sexy site design with added flow and other buzzwords
  • The reshuffling of the forums to cut down on the crap we need to wade through to get to content
  • A burst of new content to promote group activities and breathe life back into the community
  • A slew of Social Media infestations so busy people can follow them and get updates on Twelve and their fellow Twelvians
This is for you, because we love you.

A home away from hive, with tentacles.

It is time for a shift in mindset for the collective.

We want you to play your games how you want to play them, without fear of being shunned or spat on.

That means if you want to play a game with another guild we support you whole heartedly, and want to hear all about it. If you are wanting to play a game competitively outside of Twelve, we implore you to find a suitable home and hopefully make the move with other like-minded Twelvians. We hope you find this home alongside fellow Twelvians and share this new adventure together - populate the stars with your seed, my bretheren.

We hope you'll stick around and tell us all about the adventures you have in the new game. We want to relish in your victories and bask in the glory of your conquests. If you find friends in your new guild that get along with your Twelvian friends, invite them to the forums and everyone wins.

"But Fork, I already play games with other guilds!"

I know, sweet thing. You probably just haven't been able to tell us about it without getting threatened and abused on the forums.

And that will change too.

Be a better cunt!

The Twelve Forum is the central hub for everything Twelve.

It's where we break bread, share our stories, and tell our jokes. We want this to be a comfortable place where everyone is welcome.

No matter if you're playing games, watching movies, or simply popping in to let us know you're still alive and aren't in prison, we'd love to hear from you and want to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Herein lies a new Code of Conduct for the Twelve Forums:
- Try to be nice to the newbies, they are the lifeblood of our survival
- Targeted and personal attacks of users (relating to their content, appearance, beliefs etc) will be moderated
- Don't post or spread personal information or media of any user without their consent
- Malicious derailing of threads will not be tolerated
- Disagreements should remain constructive and on topic

If you break these rules, by the gods you will be smitten.

That's not to say that you should drastically change what you're doing, we know you're jerks and are clearly ok with that. We will, however be knuckling down on shit that is outright nasty and not good for anyone. You cunts can still be cunts, just be a better, smarter, more eloquent, rule-following cunt.

There's a lot going on

We have revitalised a number of Twelve happenings to get you playing games together, watching good movies and tv, and reading good books. Check out what we're up to below and see if anything tickles your fancy.

We want to bring back regular gaming nights, and the plethora of Free2Play games popping up will make this a lot easier for everyone else to join in.

Twelve Movie Club #28 is Sixteen Candles, which you have probably heard in Harold an Kumar go to White Castle but never watched. You should watch it, it's supposed to be great.

The Twelve Book Club for December is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, a genre-defining cyberpunk novel you should read with us.

We've started up a Weekly TV Viewing Thread for The West Wing, and a Weekly Anime Viewing Thread for Jormungand. Both are supposed to be fantastic series, so if you wish to try something new do join us.

Twelve Meet 2014 is being held in Fairhaven, Victoria. If you haven't heard about it until now and would like to come along and say hi, post in the interest thread. If you are already coming, ensure you're all set to go in the latest check in thread.

As previously mentioned, a Facebook Page has been set up that will provide a weekly update of what's happening in Twelve and with Twelvians. These non spammy and brief updates could cover everything from WoW guild happenings, to sharing significant life events of our members or latest POTM winners on the forums. The goal here is for Twelvians who don't have time to be active on the forums can still keep up to date with their old family, and hopefully be reminded to pop in every now and then to say hi. I implore you to Like the page, and invite any long lost Twelvians you might have added as friends to Like it too.

What say you?

We're coming to the end, but I'd like to open the floor to comments and future suggestions.

We have the greatest group of jerks, and want to make the time you spend here is worthwhile.

What do you think of this new mindset where Twelvians venture into new guilds to be awesome together?

How many used Japanese school girl undies would you throw at Clown and Spoon for the new site design?

Don't like something you've read here? Let us know, but nicely.

If you think of something that will benefit the greater Twelve, we'd love to hear it.

I'm out of headings

Whelp, I think that's about it.

I hope you like the sweet-ass new theme and functions, get used to the rejigging of the forums and stay around your friendly Twelve Hub for a long time to come.

I'd just like to thank a few people before I head off:
- Clown for his relentless siege upon phpBB to bring us these amazing new forums
- Spoon for his help behind the scenes keeping Twelve afloat on the interweb
- Shaunz for his dedication to the guild and hard stance humanity that keeps us grounded
- All you other jerks, you know who you are!
- AND A CAR FOR YOU, AND A POTPLANT FOR YOU, AND A SECOND HAND WIG FOR YOU!

Much love,

Twelve Overlords (now weilding double-ended fisting modhammers)
Spoon
We really do want to keep Twelve strong well into the future, so please do take the time to read this everyone. It outlines the results of various heated discussions we've had behind the scenes for 6+ months where we really do want to change things for the better and most of that involves a slightly altered mindset of what Twelve actually is.

Please post your thoughts and/or questions!

Great post Fork.

Ive always considered Twelve more of a community than just a forum directly related to the WoW guild. Ever since I decided to leave Twelve in WoW to play with my other friends, Twelve for me just became a cool place to catch up with a bunch of cool jerks. Its great that you guys are trying to convey this message to everyone because I think it encompasses what this community is all about.

Personally I would love if there was more opportunity for everyone to do stuff together or catch up on a more scheduled basis. The HOTS session we had is a great example and brought back a lot of good memories of when we used to do this with other games, and I could actually attend the sessions because they werent impromptu COOLBROS ONLY gaming sessions that were only available to the 4 or 5 people who happened to be in the loop at the time.

Twelve is important to everyone who is part of it for many different reasons, but the important thing to remember is that we're all friends here. I think its great that mean and malicious comments/commenters are going to be more closely moderated because I feel like its gotten a bit out of hand with certain people. Sure, this is the internet and people should be allowed to make a joke at someone elses expense, etc but when it gets to the point where members feel like they cant post or do something for fear of being stomped down it becomes a problem. And we all know Twelve is about our community and patting our bros on the shoulder when they need it, not shitting in each others mouths all the time.

Thanks Meg :)

Indeed I think most Twelvians have always felt it's a bit more than a guild, but I thought it was about time we put it down all official like.

Definitely want to have more scheduled Twelvian events like game nights and G+ hangouts, after the Meet and Christmas craziness dies down we can start planning =)

The forums did get quite nasty at one point there and I didn't like it. However it seemed to turn itself around and a lot of this "more than a game guild" stuff happened organically. We'd already planned this change and I had already written up this post prior so it was quite the pleasant surprise to see the guild realise it on their own as well.
