I know if you've been naughty ;)

It's that time of the year again folks. Christmas is upon us!

Get ready to be bombarded by Christmas carols in shopping centers, Santa buskers and a global effort to get you to spread your cheer and spend money on useless shit for people they don't really want.

So what's Santa getting you this year? Told your significant other what you want? Is it a surprise? Or are you getting something for yourself?

Stacey and I have spent way too much money this year, will be buying ourselves little pressies and giving it to each other to wrap/hide until Christmas Day. Thankfully our families are mostly doing Secret Santa things that will cut down on costs too.

In terms of celebrations, this year we're just going to two families on Christmas Day instead of three like last year which was absolute hell. Breaky at one house then lunch at the other where we'll just eat and drink copious amounts and crash the night, then head out to lunch at the last family on Boxing Day.

December 1st is also looming, anyone got a tradition of putting up the tree? Or is yours still up from last year?

Bain and Jo, going to be doing anything special or starting any Christamas traditions with babby Aedan?

Animal lovers, bought any pet-friendly antlers for your pets to hate you for yet?

I think Christmas would be a good time to buy myself a PS4 or a Wii U (Smash Bros!)

On the day I've got lunch/dinner with extended family at my parents place. This year it is themed around books and I need to figure out some sort of book character to come dressed as. That should be pretty interesting.

Then on Boxing Day we're off to watch The Hobbit together which should be enjoyable. The following day I'll be off to Sydney to spend some time hanging out with friends and celebrating New Years!

December only means one thing to me:

Okay well, maybe it means more than just one thing:

  • New artists and new art. Glorious art, GLORIOUS!
  • Sudden and extreme loss of money from my wallet/savings.
  • 3 hour lines just to get into a hall with tens of thousands of unwashed people.
  • Terrible, awkward and misplaced yelling of Japanese memes/animu references.
  • Inadequate food and rest area that is always clogged with landwhales.
  • 10 rows of photographers all hogging con space for that 1 kawaii cosplaying girl.

Christmas ain't too big here, but New Year celebrations are. Usually the family gets together from all corners of KL to do the German bar and bistro thing and get some European foods and beers into our faces.

We are just having my family over for either lunch or dinner - still organising that bit depending on the arrangements for my brother and sister's other halves. We will probably end up visiting our friends and their kids who live nearby, and we often end up with a few extra people here at some point depending on their plans.
I've got some cute Christmas fabric to make Aedan a stocking and some child-friendly tree decorations. This will be the last year for a while that we will be able to out up all the glass and other breakable tree decorations (assuming no crawling happens in the next few weeks of course).
Santa is only brining a couple of presents this year, as the family are all planning to go nuts with presents for Aedan, but he'll probably just want to chew on some wrapping paper.
We are planning on getting a Santa photo in the next couple of weeks.

This is also our first Christmas without Shai, so we will be spoiling my siblings' fur babies instead
Fun

Your family are nailing it.

No idea what I'm getting this Christmas for once which is fun, and Tag (Sarah) has no money to burn so we aren't doing any 'real' gifts which will be nice on the hip pocket.

Sarah has 3 family things to go to on Christmas day, and I've just got my one small immediate family because all the rest is in the US. This year I'm probably going to do my family in the AM, and then Sarah's dad's place at night while she does her extended (kind of insane) family in the country in the morning/afternoon which realistically means getting drunk with my dad while she is miserable in the bush.

Wouldn't mind getting some soccer/snowboarding gear, but I don't really need anything this year.

Last night I spent over an hour making Alton Brown's brine for the turkey, chucking it in the freezer and hoping it was cool enough to pop the turkey in last night so it could brine overnight. It wasn't, so I moved the brine to the fridge and set my alarm for half an hour earlier this morning to pop it in.

I get up, brine is ready and aching to make the turkey all delicious and moist.. I go to unpack the turkey and while reading the fine print I discover it's the self basting kind.. which means it's already been brined / injected with stuff.

Fucking fail. Oh well, first year doing a turkey and will know what to look for next year.
