I didn't think the Beyonce video above was too overboard, to me it came across as they just show a bit of flesh to keep the guys interested while they women enjoy the song.
I think that could be said for most things these days. It's either too sexualised, gory, has too many swear words or something else a bit extreme to make waves and get publicity. Target audience must also play a big part, from the video it seems that Beyonce aimed at tweens who dress like that.. or do they dress like that because they're emulating her?
