Hey Jerks and Jerkettes, I don't know about you guys but as soon as the footy season rolls around I decide it's a great idea to open up my Betfair account and start throwing money away betting on various Sportsball events of which I have an inflated opinion of my knowledge. I was curious if anyone else enjoys betting at all, and if there'd be any interest in perhaps a weekly discussion on good betting odds on the sports that you know and love. I also I figured it was high time to start actively losing each other money.

I imagine the format being something along the lines of people suggesting multis or good value bets in their sports of choice (mine being Australian Rules & Premier League Football), and then discussing and comparing results the following week. I somehow managed to be up quite a bit at the end of last season, but that was mostly off of finals tipping and because I'm ridiculously susceptible to wasting my money on stupid exotic bets.

As a disclaimer, this is by no means a high rolling idea - most like $10-20 multis each weekend or little cheeky flutters to make uninteresting games super fucking interesting. We can even keep a little tally of how much we've won and lost, just so at the end of the year we can all get mad at me.

Anyone remotely interested in doing something a little different on the forums? If not I'll turn this into an Olympic Titties Thread.

My family used to own a TAB in which I worked and I can say that there are people whose career is purely betting and sports multi's are generally how they do it. There was one crazy asian bloke who bet quinellas and won. The blokes who won lot's usually bet on NBA, PGA golf and EPL/CL. Never win/loss though...always crazy things.

I'm alright with the parts where money is thrown away, but I'm not so much for the sportsballs

You can be a passenger Spoon, reap the
losses
rewards of our knowledgeable betting.

I imagine if anyone is mildly interested we could pick our bets for next weekend's game, after the first round of AFL (betting on the first round is stupid).

If that fails then maybe a betting confessional...upload an image of your tab bets before the round starts...then reap the rewards and the victorious feeling of sharing it with fellow twelvians.

feed on their envy.

If I'm going to be watching a game of something, it usually makes it a lot less bullfuck boring if you've got $10 riding on one of the teams based on a completely uneducated guess.

That's my general ethos on betting. It's fun to have something to track on the weekend, especially when the buy in is quite low and the potential profit can be quite high.

I'm interested if there will be any NRL betting going on.

I would say i'm above the rest of you with the stupid amounts i'm willing to throw away though. Last year I lost a cool $834 or something like that when fucking melbourne lost to the raiders in Melbourne. It was only $200 initial layout, but i did have my whole yearly winnings riding on that game.

What we should do in multi sport multis. I'll give you the best NRL bet for the week and you just add it to your multi that has AFL EPL etc etc on it.

This is exactly what I had in mind, and what I was trying to articulate to the Lukes last night. I think there could be some good value to be had from cross sport multis, we just need some weirdo who likes A League and some Super15 enthusiastic and we're set for all the domestic 'footballs'.
Jiminy
I can do super 15 and NRL easily :)

Rugby is my game

Other than giving you tips and chipping in for the bet though I don't want to do any work.

So will this actually be a syndicate where we put money into a pool which gets used on a bet everyone agrees to (well, the experts anyway) and share the wins/losses together?

Or is it just a thread for bragging about what bets you've made and won?
