World of Warcraft movie teaser trailer shown at Comic-Con

Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. offered a first look at its long in development film based on World of Warcraft at Comic-Con today, showing a reveal trailer of the movie that will simply be titled Warcraft.

The teaser, a mix of live action and computer generated effects, appeared to take place in a desert field outside of Hellfire and featured an armored human warrior drinking potion and drawing a sword just before battling a hammer-wielding orc.

Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones will helm the Warcraft film adaptation, which is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2014, he said. Jones told Comic-Con attendees that he's been waiting for the opportunity to do the film for a long time and is excited to enter the world of Azeroth.

Prior to Jones' involvement, the World of Warcraft movie was planned to film under director Sam Raimi. He departed the project after undertaking the filming of Oz: The Great and Powerful.

A Blizzard representative told Polygon there are "no plans to release the mood piece shown" at Comic Con.

"We are excited about the Warcraft movie, which begins production in 2014, and we look forward to sharing more in the future," the company said in a statement.

Pretty scummny that it's not released the public, but I'm sure it will be leaked soon enough.

About time we had a thread for it anyway.

a) That film has already released and this one isn't even in production yet

b) He did a terrible job, so I guess they dodged a bullet

I imagine this thing will be pretty awful, but I guess that depends on how much CGI they end up using

Mr Positivity.

Do you actually expect this movie to be good?

It has been talked about for a long time, probably gone through a whole bunch of writers before even getting an approved draft, changed directors multiple times, has no confirmed actors attached and will be heavily CGI laden.

Just sounds like one long disaster of a movie to me.

I also wonder how much financing they have, seems like it'd be the sort of thing that could be quite awesome with a massive budget, but at that stage they'd probably be funding themselves instead (which would be a major risk).

I think it will be a commercial success but in terms of a memorable movie you'll watch again... Too early to tell. I'm curious as to what the main story arc will be. I've kept up with lore developments and it's mostly just been closing off of storylines opened in the rts's. The only thing I can think of is a return of Sargeras with Azshara involved and they release the movie simultaneously with the final expansion. In terms of timeline irl it would fit their content release method. We have maybe 12months left of MoP... Next expansion 90-95 18months. Final expansion 95-100 SARGERAS. That's 2.5 years to get the movie right. Sounds right?

Oh and doesn't Vivendi own Universal too? Expect a big soundtrack with some of their heavyweights.

Kanye West...

The movie would most likely be some pivotal early moment in the storyline. Humans vs Orcs most likely, it wouldn't make any sense at all to introduce [the majority of] people watching the movie to something way down the storyline.

Pretty sure Super Mario Bros was the best movie ever.

Second only to the Doom movie.

Most of the in game cinematics have been pretty good so it isn't too big of stretch of the imagination they could make a full length movie of that kind of quality. The amount delays worry me though. Why don't they just make a low budget full CGI straight to DVD kind of movie that plays out like a 90 minute cinematic? I'd take a look at that.

Because that sounds awful and would make very little money.

Also Blizzard won't be making this themselves, so the quality of their CGI will be irrelevant.

Yea I'd agree to that but people sure do buy a lot of cosmetic crap off the site. How is a DVD any different to a T-Shirt or a in game pet? I am not in marketing so I am not sure.

Which is a shame because when I first thought warcraft movie I was hoping it would be something like these 2 gems:
