New York Giants
After last year's disappointment of not making the playoffs the year following their Superbowl win, the Giants are trying to reestablish their defense. In recent seasons, New York's sack masters have brought home the bacon for the Giants defense. From 2007-2011, the Giants averaged 44.2 sacks per season, which allowed defensive ends Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Jason Pierre-Paul
to reach superstar status. That wasn't the case in 2012. The Giants recorded just 33 sacks last season (22nd in the NFL), as the once-vaunted New York pass rush struggled to find an identity.
For the first time in his career, QB Eli Manning
won't have a running back with at least 30 games of experience to lean on. What has previously been a steady string of runners for the Giants (only behind Mike Shanahan's teams in top performing 1,000 yard rushers) has some unanswered questions regarding their RBs. Second-year running back David Wilson
is projected to be the starter, and Andre Brown
will be his backup, as well as the team's short-yardage and goal-line specialist. The two backs have four career starts between them.
Coaching this team is Tom Coughlin.
In the storied history of the New York Giants, there has never been a head coach-quarterback combination that has lasted 10 seasons, so the relationship between Coughlin and Manning is certainly one of a kind. Through thick and thin, these two men have held down their respective positions for nearly a decade—the ultimate display of NFL-style symbiosis. Coughlin's drill-sergeant attitude and experience has commanded respect from his team. If the Giants are within striking distance of the playoffs come December, Coughlin will probably be the difference-maker.
The Superbowl is being played in New York for the first time this year. It is, in fact, the first time it is in a cold city and there is also a curse associated with the home of the Superbowl. No team has ever gone to the Superbowl in their home stadium. Will this team rise above their issues on D and with their running backs or will Coughlin and Manning win their 3rd Superbowl this season.
There will probably be only one team out of the NFC East this year as the competition in the other divisions will be super tight so all of the NFC East games will be close and exciting I believe.Must Watch Games Broncos @ Giants week 2
Eli Manning will play his older brother Peyton Manning for the first time since Peyton left Indianapolis.Must Watch Games Packers @ Giants week 11
The Giants have had the Packers number as of late and going to play in New York has become a habit with both teams matching up pretty equally.
