So it's been announced, the "New iPad" will have:

Also iOS 5.1 is out, upgrades include:

  • Japanese language support for Siri (availability may be limited during initial rollout)
  • Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
  • Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
  • Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
  • Redesigned Camera app for iPad
  • Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
  • Audio for TV programs and films on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer
  • Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for iPad
  • Addresses bugs affecting battery life
  • Fixes and issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls

Pretty cool, sucks I have a mortgage now so I can't buy every fucking thing I want. Maybe in a couple of months after we've worked out the budget properly, don't want any nasty surprises.

Retina display will be amazing, new A5X chip should be lightning fast. Can't wait to get one in at work to play around with.

Thinking of buying the new ipad wifi only (i have a phone so whats the point of 3gs) after it hits the market for awhile and I hear the pros/cons which eventually surface after a bit. I suck at taking notes and would prefer a laptop (or ipad with keyboard case) to make it all nice and neat. The benefits of course, would be that I can read my notes and my downloaded pdf anywhere I want with no added weight of textbook and notebook. I mean, the book alone (which i haven't bought yet) is $200 so spending an extra 300 for an ipad seems fair to me, especially since I don't currently own any iDevices besides a 3gs.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a good plan to me Rets, as long as you can get your textbook in PDF/whatever format.

I agree the WiFi only version would be a lot better for those that can tether to their phone, but it would get annoying if you didn't have WiFi at home or work to forever have to be turning it on/off.

true, but school and such almost all have wifi these days. I also have wifi at home and plan to setup wifi in whatever man-cave I relocate to in the future because you can't live without it as a someone who's tied to internet and/or games (ds/psp/iphone).

it is hard to find textbooks in pdf but I've been lucky enough to do so sofar, I've just been reading them on my computer which is kind of a drag, but i've saved a couple hundred already.

Bought one of the new 13" Mac book pros. Should get it tomorrow or the day after.

I couldn't justify the $2500 for the retina 15" mac book pro. I know clown has though haha
